This year, BNHCA hosted candidate forums for the City of Berkeley Council and Mayoral races.
After reviewing responses to questionnaires, forum questions, and the candidate's records, BNHCA has officially endorsed the following candidates. We believe these individuals will be the strongest advocates for meaningful, effective housing & climate action on Berkeley City Council.
We encourage all BNHCA members to donate and volunteer to our endorsed candidates! Click their names to be taken to their websites.
Recordings of the forums can be viewed at BNHCA's YouTube Channel.
Candidates were also asked to respond to brief questionnaires regarding housing & climate action issues in Berkeley. Their responses can be found below:
We are a group of Berkeley neighbors who want a better city for everyone.
We know climate change is the foremost threat to the planet, and transportation is the single greatest source of greenhouse gas emissions in both Berkeley and California.
We know Berkeley's housing shortage directly contributes to these high emissions by forcing middle- and low-income workers into increasingly long and miserable commutes.
Therefore, we believe we must create more homes in Berkeley, for all income levels. This is the most environmentally sound and socially equitable solution to our shared housing and climate crises.
Our common destiny is our shared opportunity. We believe that by creating transit-rich, diverse, and walkable neighborhoods, we can be a regional leader in tackling climate change while becoming a more affordable and equitable city for ourselves and future generations.
